The FBI Finds Explosives in Terry Nichols' Old Home. While pursuing a tip that evidence was missed almost a decade ago, FBI agents searched the former home of convicted Oklahoma City bombing conspirator Terry Nichols. FBI officials said Friday (April 1, 2005) that blasting caps and other explosive materials believed to be related to the 1995 attack were found, buried in a crawl space of the Herington, Kansas home. That space apparently was not checked by FBI agents during the numerous searches of the property in the original investigation of Terry Nichols and Timothy McVeigh.

The United States Supreme Court refused to intervene in the Terri Schiavo case for a sixth time late Wednesday - March 30, 005. Taking less than two hours to reject her parents' request that the feeding tube for their brain-damaged daughter be reinserted the High Court ruled against intervening. The next morning (March 31, 2005) the brain-damaged woman died 13 days after her feeding tube was removed. Commentaries expect legislative action in this area will continue to be debated in the US Congress.

Superstar Lawyer Johnnie Cochran died in Los Angeles, California, on Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at the age of 67. Johnnie L. Cochran Jr., (1937-2005) became a legal superstar after helping clear O.J. Simpson during a sensational murder trial. In the trial closing, Cochran uttered perhaps his most famous quote "If it doesn't fit, you must acquit". Jurors found the Hall of Fame football star not guilty of the 1994 slayings of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. Johnnie Cochran was born on October 2, 1937, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was the great-grandson of former slaves, grandson of a sharecropper and son of an insurance salesman. Cochran came to Los Angeles with his family in 1949, and became one of two dozen black students integrated into Los Angeles High School in the 50's. After graduating from UCLA, he attended Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, and was admitted to the California bar on January 10, 1963 (Bar No. 33334). The legal career of Cochran will be noted as one marked by "celebrity" cases and clientele. But he and his family were most proud of the work he did on behalf of those in the community. The Cochran Firm was founded by its senior law partner, Johnnie L. Cochran, Jr. Cochran was said to be America's most famous criminal lawyer. The national law firm that was established by Cochran on Wednesday said it will continue to call itself The Cochran Firm. The head of the law firm's Miami branch office stated that Cochran's death would not weaken growth plans of the office or the law firm's planned expansion in Florida.
